Hi everyone!

There are only 10 days left before my workshops in Loveland, Colorado (May 18-19).  On Saturday, I'll be presenting my full-day workshop "Step Junkie's Secrets for Teaching Step" covering everything you need to know to be a professional-level Step instructor.  Sunday's workshop, Break It Down Like a Pro," is devoted to breakdowns.  We will get lots of practice with my breakdown method that enables all levels of steppers to really get the moves and keep moving throughout the entire class.

Dayton, Ohio Workshop, April 20-21, 2013

Hi Everyone,

My Dayton, Ohio workshop is coming up in about a month!  On Saturday, we are going to go over everything you need to know to teach a professional-level step class, PLUS I'll be giving away all my secrets for creating interesting and fun choreography as well as my breakdown technique.  Then on Sunday, we're going to go into a lot of detail on my breakdown method, and we will have a super fun master class!  Everyone is welcome at the master class ($10 fee if you are not attending the workshop).

Dayton, Ohio Workshop, April 20-21, 2013

DETROIT Workshop, Sept.29-30 !!!

I'm pleased to announce a Step Junkie workshop in the DETROIT area (Harper Woods, Michigan), on Sept. 29-30.  On Saturday, I'll be leading my "Step Junkie's Secrets for Teaching Step" -- a full-day workshop devoted to discussions of all aspects of teaching a professional-level Step class.  On Sunday, we will go into detail regarding breakdowns, one of the hardest elements of teaching a great Step class. We also have our Master Class on Sunday from 12:15 -1:15 p.m.  The Master Class is open to everyone ($10 if you are not attending the workshop)!!

Comments on the Use of My Methods

I thought I'd share some recent comments from participants who have taken my workshops.  They report that the use of my methods help participants "get" moves that they've never been able to "get" before, helps them with the tap-free choreography, AND their heart rates stay up higher throughout the class, making the entire class a better workout.  Here are their comments:

"Tuesday night, I had steppers who are used to being taught with "taps". As a reminder, at one club, Sue and I are the only "tapless" instructors.  One "tapper" was in early and I know her well, so I briefed on taking your workshop and a different breakdown. The other "tapper" missed the first combo but was at the top of the second combo.


RESULT: They both are experienced in "tap" step (that's what the club does during the day). I used my training from you workshop; being well prepared, breakdown thought out...etc. Just kept trucking. The taps were gone. At the end, we did all three 32 cts combos (R&L) and the whole class rocked. The only minimal slow down for the tappers was when I took Combo 1 on Right Lead then Combo Two on Left Lead, etc but they have not been exposed to that before. Your methods leads to so much success.

Key Result: One "tapper" said she picked up on more moves during my one class and kept her heart rate up=Fun + workout + Fun + workout==++++"

"I so love this method and how it has taken my classes & cuing and moves to the next level. My group is loving it….I’ve had some people with me for years and they are all commenting how much fun it is to step with the layering method. I also have some newer people and some that have returned after not having done class for a long time and they told me they could actually pick up the more complicated steps whereas they never could before.

I am so thankful that Colleen brought you here for the workshops and it is again one of my favorite classes to teach every week!!"

Final Days before Iowa Step Workshop

Turning my Eye to the IOWA Workshop, July 21-22

I just got back from my workshop in the Chicago/Milwaukee area, and what a fantastic experience for me!  The ladies who attended were wonderful, and the master class rocked with some of their step participants joining us -- and they were also really excellent steppers!

So, now I am looking forward to my next workshop, July 21-22, in Newton, Iowa, just outside of Des Moines.  If you would like to attend the workshop, please register before June 23 to get the best rate.  Saturday will be a full day of learning everything you need to know to teach a professional-level Step class, and Sunday we'll be talking about bringing Step back to life.  You can earn a whole year's worth of CECs for ACE and AFAA in this day and a half!!!

Chicago-Milwaukee Workshop, June 9-10, 2012

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the Chicago-Milwaukee workshop is officially a "go" on June 9-10, 2012 in Round Lake Beach, Illinois.  The workshop includes the master class on Sunday afternoon.  Saturday is a full day, extremely comprehensive workshop that covers everything you need to know to teach a top-notch Step class, and Sunday, we'll talk about Resurrecting Freestyle Step.  I hope you'll consider joining us if you live near here.
